Tympanoplasty
What is Tympanoplasty?
Tympanoplasty reconstructs a perforated or damaged tympanic membrane using a tissue graft, typically from the patient's own temporalis fascia, to restore the eardrum's integrity and improve hearing.
Common Symptoms & Indications
- Hole or perforation in the eardrum
- Hearing loss
- Recurrent ear discharge
- Pain or discomfort in the ear
- History of chronic ear infections
Dr. Dhar's Approach
Microsurgical repair using autologous graft material. The approach may be transcanal or postauricular depending on perforation size and location.
What to Expect
Short hospital stay. Ear packing removed at first follow-up visit. Full graft take is assessed at 6–8 weeks. Significant hearing improvement expected in most patients.
