What is Mastoidectomy?
Mastoidectomy is a surgical procedure to remove diseased mastoid air cells or a cholesteatoma — a destructive skin cyst that can erode surrounding bone structures including the ossicles.
Common Symptoms & Indications
- Chronic ear discharge with foul odour
- Progressive hearing loss
- Ear pain or headache
- Dizziness or vertigo
- Facial weakness (in advanced cases)
Dr. Dhar's Approach
Eradication of disease from the mastoid bone using a postauricular approach. The procedure may be combined with tympanoplasty to reconstruct the hearing mechanism.
What to Expect
Inpatient procedure with a hospital stay of 2–3 days. Follow-up is essential to ensure complete disease clearance. Regular surveillance endoscopy post-operatively.
